Project Details & Financial Terms Explanation

1. Capital Structure Terms

  • Equity Capital: The direct funds contributed by project promoters or investors. It represents non-debt ownership capital used to absorb initial project risk.
  • Debt Financed: Long-term or short-term borrowings from commercial banks or financial institutions used to fund capital expenditures (machinery, land, civil structure) and initial working capital.
  • Debt-to-Equity (D/E) Ratio: Measures financial leverage by comparing total debt to total equity investment. Higher leverage increases financial risk but can enhance equity returns if project earnings exceed borrowing costs.
  • Debt Ratio: Indicates the percentage of total project assets funded through debt. A balanced debt ratio is critical in the food and beverage industry to withstand commodity price fluctuations.

2. Operational & Profitability Terms

  • Cost of Goods Sold (COGS): Direct operational expenditures required to manufacture products, including raw agricultural inputs, ingredients, packaging materials, and direct processing energy.
  • Operating Expenses (OPEX): Indirect costs incurred to run the plant, including factory labor, administrative salaries, quality control, maintenance, storage, distribution, and marketing.
  • Gross Profit Margin: The percentage of revenue remaining after deducting direct production costs. A higher margin indicates efficient raw material procurement and recipe cost control.
  • EBITDA Margin: Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization as a percentage of total revenue. It measures raw operational cash productivity independent of financing structure and asset aging.
  • Operating Margin (EBIT): Measures operational efficiency after accounting for equipment wear and tear (depreciation) and intangible asset amortization.
  • Net Profit Margin: The bottom-line profitability ratio showing the percentage of revenue remaining after all operating costs, interest charges, and corporate income taxes are paid.

3. Return & Debt Coverage Metrics

  • Return on Equity (ROE): Measures net income generated relative to the capital invested by shareholders. It highlights how effectively investor capital is deployed.
  • Return on Assets (ROA): Indicates how efficiently the overall project asset base (equity plus debt) generates net profits.
  • Interest Coverage Ratio (ICR): Calculated as Operating Profit (EBIT) divided by Annual Interest Expense. It assesses the project's capacity to pay interest obligations from operational earnings.
  • Debt Service Coverage Ratio (DSCR): Calculated as (EBITDA - Tax) divided by Total Annual Debt Service (Principal + Interest). It measures cash available to service total debt obligations; lenders typically require a DSCR above 1.25x to 1.50x.
